GENERAL SERVICE RATES

Ontario Energy Board approved rates effective May 1, 2008.

Since April 2004, eligible consumers including small business (less than 250,000 kWh annually), residential and “designated consumers” such as municipalities, hospitals, schools, colleges and universities have paid a lower price for the first 750 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity used each month and a higher price for electricity used over the 750 kWh threshold.
The Electricity price for the first 750 kWh per month remains at 5.0¢ per kWh. Consumption above that threshold remains at 5.9 ¢ per kWh. The Ontario Energy Board reviews these rates every 6 months.

If you buy your electricity through a contract with an electricity retailer, you will continue to pay their price.

Large volume consumers (over 250,000 kWh annually) will continue to pay the Hourly Ontario Energy Price or spot market price delivered through Standard Supply Service and have all the options and flexibility to make supply arrangements that they have currently.

The Delivery line on your bill is changing. The Ontario Energy Board approves these rates annually.

(1) The Ontario Energy Board Amendment Act, 2003 defines “designated” and “low-volume” consumers. Consumers not designated in the Act, pay the Variable Spot Market Price through Standard Supply Service ( SSS ). Customers who signed a contract with a retailer after December 9, 2002 are billed under the terms of the contract until the contract expires. (2) Adjustment Factor As electricity travels through the lines and transformers to your home or business, losses naturally occur throughout the electricity system. Legislation requires us to indicate the Adjustment Factor on your bill. The Adjustment Factor 1.05050 (1.0145 on greater than 5,000 kW)  is applied to the kWh consumption read at your meter to account for the losses that occur in the electricity system. Your bill indicates the difference between the kWh consumption read at your meter and the kWh consumption you are actually billed for. The Adjustment Factor is reflected in your Electricity Charge, Transmission Charges (residential and small general service customers only) and the Wholesale Market Charge.
