Theme Picture

Ontario Energy Board approved rates effective November 1, 2011.

General Service, < 50 kW Demand electricity consumers are billed Time-of-Use (TOU) pricing. Consumers who buy electricity through a contract with an Electricity Retailer, will continue to pay their price. The rates associated with the Delivery line on your bill have not changed.

For additional information on TOU pricing and time periods, please click here.

TOU Prices Winter (Nov 1 - Apr 30)
Off-peak:
6.2 ¢/kWh
Weekdays 7 pm to 7 am & Weekends and Holidays - all day
Mid - peak:
9.2 ¢/kWh
Weekdays 11 am to 5 pm
On-peak:
10.8 ¢/kWh
Weekdays 7 am to 11 am & 5 pm to 7 pm

There are some General Service customers still billed on a two-tier price structure.

Tiered prices are changing as follows:

The Electricity price for the first 750 kWh per month has changed from 6.8¢ per kWh to 7.1¢ per kWh. Consumption above that threshold has changed from at 7.9¢ per kWh to 8.3¢ per kWh. The Ontario Energy Board reviews these rates every 6 months. These rates apply to low volume customers (under 250,000 kWh annually) falling under Ontario’s Regulated Price Plan (RPP).

Large volume consumers (over 250,000 kWh annually) will continue to pay the hourly Ontario energy price delivered through Standard Supply Service and have all the options and flexibility to make supply arrangements that they have currently.

The Ontario Energy Board approves these rates annually.

(1) The Ontario Energy Board Amendment Act, 2003 defines “designated” and “low-volume” consumers. Consumers not designated in the Act, pay the Variable Spot Market Price through Standard Supply Service ( SSS ).
Customers who signed a contract with a retailer after December 9, 2002 are billed under the terms of the contract until the contract expires.
(2) Adjustment Factor
As electricity travels through the lines and transformers to your home or business, losses naturally occur throughout the electricity system. Legislation requires us to indicate the Adjustment Factor on your bill. The Adjustment Factor 1.0404 (1.0050 on greater than 5,000 kW) is applied to the kWh consumption read at your meter to account for the losses that occur in the electricity system. Your bill indicates the difference between the kWh consumption read at your meter and the kWh consumption you are actually billed for. The Adjustment Factor is reflected in your Electricity Charge, Transmission Charges (residential and small general service customers only) and the Wholesale Market Charge.
