Planning
No service installation should be made without consulting with Waterloo North Hydro (WNH) first since regulations vary. For example depending on the application, primary voltage services, transformers and transformer vault rooms may be required. Each case must be considered individually since conditions change with the nature and location of the building. Early consultation with WNH will help prevent delays in providing service connections. All installations must be made in accordance with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
As part of the normal planning process we are asked by the Townships to give our comments regarding any new plans of subdivision that are currently under development. Prior to proceeding with your development please contact us and we will be happy to explain the process for servicing new subdivisions, commercial lots or industrial sites.
Required Site Plan Information
Review of the site plans submitted to the Engineering Department will require up to four weeks. Please ensure all of the following information is included:
Once a site plan has been submitted to Waterloo North Hydro Inc.'s (WNH) engineering Department, it will be reviewed and comments made. Issues discussed are WNH's proposed point of supply, work to be done by the contractor and WNH, metering requirements, utility charges and any other relevant information necessary for connection of the service.
For all services, WNH is responsible for the first 30m (100 ft.) of service. The owner is responsible for services greater than 30m.
Metering Regulations
All service equipment including meter cabinets and meter sockets are supplied by the contractor. The size of meter cabinets varies according to the size and type of service equipment. For large services with individual metering, a special metering cabinet at the main switch is required for monitoring purposes. For details in these cases, please consult the Meter Department of WNH.
