Effective November 1, 2011

The Ontario Energy Board has announced that electricity pricing for Regulated Price Plan (RPP) consumers is changing. RPP prices, reviewed semi-annually, are reflected on the “Electricity” line of residential bills for those who purchase their power directly from their local utility. If you buy your electricity through a contract with an electricity retailer, you will continue to pay their price. Residential rates are based on the Time-of-use (TOU) price structure determined by the Ontario Energy Board. For additional information on TOU pricing and time periods, please click here.

TOU rates are as follows:

TOU Prices Winter (Nov 1 - Apr 30)
Off-peak:
6.2 ¢/kWh
Weekdays 7 pm to 7 am & Weekends and Holidays - all day
Mid - peak:
9.2 ¢/kWh
Weekdays 11 am to 5 pm
On-peak:
10.8 ¢/kWh
Weekdays 7 am to 11 am & 5 pm to 7 pm

There are some residential customers still billed on a two-tier price structure.
Tiered prices are changing as follows:

The price for the first tier is changed from 6.8¢ per kWh to 7.1¢ per kWh. The price for electricity over this threshold is changed from 7.9¢ per kWh to 8.3¢ per kWh.
Consumers pay the lower price for the first 600 kWh per month from May to October and for the first 1,000 kWh from November until April.
The Ontario Energy Board reviews these rates every 6 months.

The rates associated with the Delivery line on your bill have not changed. The overall bill impact of electricity line changes, based on usage of 800 kWh per month, is an increase of 1.8%.

(2) Adjustment Factor
As electricity travels through the lines and transformers to your home or business, losses naturally occur throughout the electricity system. Legislation requires us to indicate the Adjustment Factor on your bill. The Adjustment Factor 1.0404 is applied to the kWh consumption read at your meter to account for the losses that occur in the electricity system. Your bill indicates the difference between the kWh consumption read at your meter and the kWh consumption you are actually billed for. The Adjustment Factor is reflected in your Electricity Charge, Transmission Charges (residential and small general service customers only) and the Wholesale Market Charge.
