The holiday season will be brighter for local families thanks to the staff of Waterloo North Hydro (WNH).

WNH employees raised $15,159 for United Way Waterloo Region Communities during a month-long organization-wide fundraising campaign.

“Waterloo North Hydro’s team has help improve the lives of many people across Waterloo Region thanks to their generosity this holiday season,” said Rene Gatien, Waterloo North Hydro’s President and CEO. “United Way is an important cause for our staff and we are very excited to make this donation following our 2018 campaign.”

Funds were raised through a number of activities, including a chili cook-off, a silent auction, turkey raffle, bake sale, and pancake breakfast. Staff also support United Way through voluntary payroll deductions and on-time donations.

“We would like to thank Waterloo North Hydro for their generosity and effort in raising funds for this donation,” said United Way Waterloo Region Communities CEO, Joan Fisk. “We appreciate their continued support of our programs.”

WNH has supported United Way since 2004 and raised more than $163,000 in that time. The organization also supports numerous charities across the region and encourages employees to be active members of the communities it serves.

United Way Waterloo Region Communities is dedicated to helping people live better lives in every one of the seven communities it serves. The United way is the largest funder of social programs in Waterloo Region, second only to government. It is locally focused, informed, connected, and deeply invested in helping people reach their full potential in the seven communities that comprise Waterloo Region: Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Wilmot, Woolwich, Wellesley and North Dumfries.
