Leadership Team


Waterloo North Hydro Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Waterloo North Hydro Holding Corporation. Its Board of Directors is appointed by the Board of Waterloo North Hydro Holding Company and is responsible for the overall direction of the company. Day-to-day leadership and management of the corporation are delegated to the President and Chief Executive Officer and the senior management team.

Executive Team

Rene W. Gatien, P. Eng., MBA
President & Chief Executive Officer

Rene GatienRene Gatien is the President and CEO since July 2002. Mr. Gatien was previously the Vice-President of Operations for Guelph Hydro for 11 years. Mr. Gatien holds a BASc in Electrical Engineering and is registered as a Professional Engineer and as a Journeyman Power Lineman in the province of Ontario.  As well he holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.  He has over 37 years of experience in the electrical industry in both the private and public sectors.



Albert P. Singh, MBA, CPA, CGA
Vice-President, Finance, and Chief Financial Officer

Albert SinghAlbert Singh is the Vice-President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Singh holds an MBA degree and is a Chartered Professional Accountant. He joined the utility in January of 2003 and was previously the Director of Finance for Hydro Vaughan Distribution Inc. for six years. Mr. Singh has over 37 years of experience in the public and private sector, including twelve years with the City of Etobicoke and six years with a subsidiary of Goodyear Canada.



Dorothy Moryc, P. Eng
Vice-President, Engineering & Stations

Dorothy Moryc

Dorothy Moryc was promoted to the Vice-President, Engineering & Stations in September 2018, and has held several positions in the Engineering department over the past 20 years. Ms. Moryc holds a B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from University of Waterloo and is registered as a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario. Ms. Moryc began her career in the Stations Engineering department overseeing construction and upgrades to transformer stations and communication systems used by WNH's Control Room.  For the seven years prior to Vice-President, Ms. Moryc's responsibilities included the distribution system capital projects as the Manager of Distribution Engineering. 


John Stephens, CET
Vice-President, Operations

John StephensJohn Stephens was promoted to the position of Vice-President, Operations on September 10, 2018.  He graduated from the Construction Engineering Technology program at Conestoga College in 1990 and is a Certified Engineering Technologist in Ontario.  Mr. Stephens has held various positions in the company and its original telecommunications affiliate as well as in the private sector over the past 26 years.  He most recently managed WNH's Control Room team for six years.  



Mark Dillon, COBIT
Vice-President, Information Technology Services

Mark DillonMark Dillon is the Vice-President, Information Technology Services since July 2019. Mark began as a software developer in the utility sector during Y2K, deregulation and led multiple smart metering deployments. Having worked in private, municipal, education and utility sectors Mark brings practical experience in intelligent communities, fibre optics, wireless networks, SCADA, information security and the complexities of the utility industry. Most recently, 2016 to 2019, Mark managed information technology for the City of Sarnia where he assisted in a dark fibre optic build, adoption of open source technology, build of new website, placement in the 2019 Top7 intelligent communities and recognition through a 2018 Chamber of Commerce OBAA.
