Waterloo North Hydro’s Electrical Safety Poster Contest is Back!

Teachers! Parents! Students! Sharpen your pencils, the Electrical Safety Poster Contest is back for another year.

Beginning March 15, you can submit your best artwork for a chance to win a great prize and the title of Waterloo North Hydro Safety Ambassador.

What is the Contest?

We’re looking for Waterloo Region’s best elementary school artists to help create safety posters for us to share with the community.

If you’re in Grade 1-8, you can enter your artwork for a chance to be featured in bill inserts, banners, and have a chance to win some great prizes.

All you have to do is create a poster showing how to be safe and avoid overhead powerlines.

How Do I Enter?

Entering the contest is easy. Design a poster showing “How to Stay Safe and Avoid Overhead Powerlines Lines” and do one of the following:

  1. Enter by uploading your poster and completing the online form located here.
  2. Email a copy of the poster, along with a signed entry form to postercontest@wnhydro.com.
  3. Mail the Poster to Mail to Electrical Safety Poster Contest c/o Waterloo North Hydro; 526 Country Squire Rd.; Waterloo ON, N2J 4G8
  4. Drop a copy of the poster at Waterloo North Hydro’s office at 526 Country Squire Rd., in Waterloo

What is This Year’s Theme?

Overhead powerlines are dangerous and can be deadly. Help educate others on the dangers of overhead powerlines by designing a poster that shows “How Can I Stay Safe & Avoid Overhead Powerlines.”

Remember these important powerline safety tips:

  • Overhead powerlines are dangerous and can be deadly
  • Stay 3-6 metres away from overhead powerlines at all times
  • Keep equipment away from overhead powerlines
  • Carry ladders and other equipment horizontally

Who Is Eligible?

This year’s contest is open to every student in Grade 1-8 that attends an elementary school in Waterloo North Hydro’s service territory.

Are you homeschooled, or not in a classroom? You can still win, just start drawing!

What Can I Win?

Participating artists will be separated into three age groups: Primary (Grade 1-3), Junior (Grade 4-6), and Senior (Grade 7-8). Three winners will be chosen from each age group. Winners will receive:

  • A $50 Indigo Gift Card
  • A safety kit prepared for you by Waterloo North Hydro
  • The title of Waterloo North Hydro Safety Ambassador, along with a special reward

When is the Deadline?

The contest begins on Monday, March 15. All entries must be submitted by the closing date of 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 23.

Following the end of the contest, you’ll have a chance to vote for your favourite poster during our online vote to select this year’s winners.
